Post Con Blues

We finished our first con of the year and I came down with the worst flu I have ever had!  I'm still fighting it two weeks later... but all in all, that's the only Post con blues we have to speak of.  FrankenThug went over better then we could have ever imagined.  We made a lot of friends, had a ton of fans stop by and even sold out of Once Upon a Nightmare.  Fried Gold, I tell ya.

We wanna strike while the iron is still hot, so we sent out all of our pre orders and now we are onto the review stage.  I'm about to be judged by anyone and everyone with a computer and an outlet.  It's nerve wracking but to be honest I love hearing what people think of my films.  This one especially because I love FrankenThug.  I actually watch it on my own... how crazy is that.  I wanna make sure I'm just stroking my own ego, so I am so ready to hear feedback.

We plan on doing a lot of cons and festivals this year, so if you missed us at Days of the Dead: Atlanta, don't worry... we will be around.  We also have a ton of projects this year which should be super fun.  We may even have our very own film festival for you guys to participate in (Details to come later).  Short, features and shows, we all have our work cut our for us but I've finally found our missing pieces and our crew is unlike any other out there.

Year after year, It's always a little bit better and I'm shocked but this one is gonna be one hell of a ride.  It's going to take everything I have just to hold on as everything blurs by.

See ya on the other side, kids!

Hey Guys,

Hope all is well!  We are super busy over here finishing up our third and biggest feature yet.  The post production on this flick has been killer and we are currently battling it out to make some funds on indiegogo, if ya have a minute... please help us out!

We've done a ton of press which I'll update later this week and we've been putting out so much press that it's nearly insanity... or maybe past insanity... all I know is that Jack Torrance thinks it's a good idea.

Check it!

Night Driving

Well we've done something very strange... we made a non horror film.  A film without a single scene of gore or nudity or bad language and it makes me feel dirty lol.  I'm very happy to know that I have the ability to do something out of my wheel house now.  I've always had a love for film... not just scary ones... grow up as an outcast and you make friends with either books, tv or both.  I found both.

NIght Driving is about one final ride around town while two strangers bond. Staring Samuel Wise and Sarah Watkins.  Shot by Shane Cohran and music by Johnny Goth.

Its a short little thing but I really do hope you guys like it!

Well...
This is a project I've tried to keep under wraps for a while and now that it is complete and being submitted to festivals starting tomorrow, it's finally time to talk about it! This is my first time having directed and while it was incredibly challenging at times, I loved every minute of it. This experience helped me grow so much as a film maker its unreal.

First of all, a HUGE shout out to this cast and crew. You all did AMAZING and I'm honored to have worked with such great talent. Though I've been staring at all of your faces for the past two weeks now, I can't wait to see you guys again!

In these next few weeks we will be submitting Scarlette Ledger to several film festivals, so please keep your fingers crossed for that! We all busted our asses to share this film, so we are doing what we can actually make it seen! Thank you to Stephen Gilliam for making us this kick ass poster to go along with everything!

Chapter IV: A New Hope

A long time ago... on a porch far far away... I started making my first short.  While it was nothing fancy and some could say it was a total piece of shit.  It was mine!  A fully created, totally original work.  This is what happens when you surround yourself with people who say, why the hell not to your crazy ideas.  I have a lot of gratitude that I need to give to Danielle Page for that.

It's been almost two years and I feel like I've been tested again and again but I'm still standing.  I've made two features, several shorts and worked on multiple things that will never see the light of day: take it from me, you can only rely on yourself when it comes to this industry.  I don't mean that to sound bitter, I have my team and I'd trust them to the ends of the earth and to the very depths of hell, but even our short time we have found some low down scoundrels.

You move on and you get better.  Hell, if you act professional and graceful enough, you'll even start to garner attention from fans and peers.  This has to be the most surreal part about continuing to make movies.  I've had people who have heard of me now.  I still make shitty movies, but they are a fraction better each time.  I still drink to much but now its more for fun then stress.  Its not even been two years and I can't fathom how far we have come.

Room for Rent had a terrific first showing back in October.  People laughed and people screamed and I got my first real taste of scaring people.  It was fantastic!  Since then, I've had a ton of reviews (most of which are glowing) and a hell of a lot of buzz building up.  The movie is taking on a life of its own!  I have become Dr. Frankenstein.

And we are still team Buck Short!  Still the same band members and still the same set list but we are growing.  This year I'll be joining Nathan Hamilton on the Indie Filmmaker Panel at Days of the Dead: Atlanta to talk the craft with some of the best and brightest on the scene.  I'm also planning a super secret screening with passwords and shit while at the con... its going to be insane.

Danielle Page has been working hard directing her first flick... she's going to replace me real soon if she keeps this up.  Her first film is better than anything I can do now, she's only going to get better.  She's also tearing up the scene acting more and more.  Mark my words, everyone will know her name.

We have a lot of appearances coming up this year.  Some local, some very far away but we will not stop pushing our little slice of hell onto everyone.  In between the cons and film festivals, we will be working on one feature film and one short... that may or may not end up as a feature as well.  The ball is rolling and I'm just along for the ride.

There is so much I want to announce to you guys... but unfortunately, you're gonna have to keep hanging around until the time is right.

I'll keep ya entertained until then!

2016 is almost over and we are headed full force into the new year!  Keep an eye out for us at ALLLL of the conventions this year as we peddle our wares and show a movie that might actually be good this time.  I'm pretty proud of Room for Rent, I'm very proud of the cast and crew.  We had a hell of a premiere... next stop...  Days of the Dead: Atlanta

Room for Rent

After what seems an eternity, I've finally been able to pull all the stops and finish "Room for Rent!"  The movie is completed and post production/advertising is in full swing already.  I've made a website called www.whereisdavid.org, that is our take on the viral marketing venture.  I'm actually pretty proud of it.  It would be nice to see it take a life of its own but I still see film making as middle school science class.  Ya know, where you get the bean sprout and you do everything you can to make it grow three inches?  You water it daily and talk to it and try your best to make Jack's gigantic stalk but to no avail!!!  But in the end, you're just as proud of those three inches, man!  We are growers, not showers!

I've also jumped into my first crowd funding campaign... its hell!  But you can totally donate here!!!  I'm trying to raise 3000 to be able to afford the costs of conventions, festivals and DVD manufacturing.  It seems kind of impossible but somehow, we will make it work.  We always do.

Lastly, we also have a red carpet premiere of our new film coming to The Plaza Theater in Atlanta on Halloween!  (Tickets Here).  I'm so excited about this!  I get to act fancy and put on a suit and walk all over a theater stage with a beer in hand!!!  I'm so excited that this is actually replacing my annual Halloween bash that has become a must over the last several years!  So come out to this as well!  It'll be a party you don't wanna miss.

I need to update more... there is so much going on but this will have to suffice for now.  I have a personal life too ya know... please... stop laughing... that wasn't a joke.

Until next time, fiends!

We are back from Days of the Dead-- Indiana.

Sorry it took so long for us to update; Richard and I have both been sick as dogs since we came back! Allergies are a bitch for us deep southerners.

Since our last update, we took on Indiana. It was a great bonding experience for our team to road trip all the way to Indianapolis. Though it would have been even better had we stopped in Kentucky at Dinosaur World. BUT IT'S FINE.

We have also just about wrapped up all preproduction for Room For Rent and will start filming in just two short weeks! Yay!

These next few months will be CRAZY for us between Room For Rent and a few other projects we have coming for you guys! Stay tuned because we will have some wild stuff you don't want to miss. Including some HUUUUUUGE announcements we can't wait to share!

Stay excellent.

Indie Summer Camp

Things have been strange with us lately.  At some points we are excelling more than we have ever thought but at others... it feels like we are barely keeping a float.  I think that would prove true for any venture ever taken though.

My best friend and financial mastermind, David Cairo is coming back to Georgia, this is gonna be a huge help on the movies.  Danielle Page is a saint and always willing to do everything but some extra help from a dude who will care just as much as he does will be fantastic.  We're gonna be a rag tag family.  I honestly can't wait.

Me and the Crew (Danielle and Daniel) will be traveling to Indianapolis for Days of the Dead in about a week for another screening of "Once Upon a Nightmare."  We were lucky enough to get a hand from Stephen Biro, who is letting us share his booth.  We honestly didn't think we were gonna make it but see... sometimes things look up!

I really enjoy Days of the Dead, but it hit me that I've gotta keep going, I can't be satisfied.  I thought, I just needed to make more films (Keep a look out for Room for Rent, filming at the end of July) but I think I need to get more people to see my stuff too.  So we are going to other festivals and contests as well.  Days of the Dead will always be my home but its cool that we are starting to travel and actually get to be a part of so many things

I'm going to try and be better at updating on the website, I'm so addicted to Facebook, that I have trouble leaving it.  I'll have a new update on our new merch and a few other films we have under belts soon.

Quick Update

Man, shit is crazy at the Buck Short house right now.  We've got a million little things going on at once.   I am currently finishing the script to our next feature film "Room for Rent."  It should be a quick and simple film with a much smaller cast than "Once Upon a Nightmare," but has the potential to be a lot scarier and a much better movie.  I may have no idea what I'm doing but looking back on OUAN... I really had no idea what I was doing.  On top of that we just finished a secret project that I'm not allowed to talk about quite yet but lets just say it might haunt a few of your dreams.

We are still riding the con circuit as well.  We just premiered in Los Angeles, sadly none of us could afford to get out there that quick.  We really thought it would be a one and done kinda thing but now it looks like we will be traveling to Indy and Louisville before the end of the year to taint the screens with our presence.  We've also been sending shorts to different film festivals and competitions in Georgia, So I should have a list of places to see our films soon!

Daniel Whitton has been hard at work as well... homeboy has gone crazy with inspiration of the bloodiest sorts lately.  So much so that he wrote his own script for a short called "Nana's House," which we are proud to introduce in the Buck Short Catalog.  He's also inspired me to make our first short "Hematolangia" into a trilogy.  We should have all three done and on DVD with a few other goodies by September.  Fingers crossed ya know.

So much is happening.  It's freaky.  I can't even talk about the more exciting things!  I will say, I'm thrilled that I'm about to collab with one of the best filmmakers on the scene.  It's gonna be killer.  Keep checking back though to stay up to date on the craziness that is film making.
